Be Mine! {Valentine cd}

Did you know that my heart skips a beat for a MIX TAPE? well, it does! I LOVE a fun variation of music and if it has a “theme” all the better! HA! So being that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner I thought I would make a mix cd! One that would put a smile on my face and one that I could play and dance around with the kids!!

Perfect Pot Roast

This is the PERFECT Sunday, family day, comfort food!

I love the rustic and homey feeling that I get smelling this all afternoon roasting in the oven.

Like all my recipes I tend to use what I have at the time so I rarely have the exact same meal twice!

olive oil, drizzle enough to coat bottom of pan

2 onions, quartered

3 carrots, chopped

2 stalks celery, chopped

Roast

salt/pepper

4 cloves garlic

2 tsp thyme

1 cup beef broth

1 cup red wine

1 pkt Lipton onion soup mix

Drizzle olive oil to coat bottom of Dutch oven, get pan really hot and toss in onions, get a nice char on them and remove, add celery and carrots, garlic and repeat. Then, generously salt and pepper beef, sear all sides and ends, remove. Deglaze pan with red wine and broth. Add seasonings, beef and veggies back to pan. Place in preheated 275 oven for 4 hrs. or longer. It just keeps getting better.

For variations you can add mushrooms, squash, beets, potatoes, leeks, parsnips, anything!!

Sorry, the lighting on the blackberry is terrible! I love Sophie the giraffe (a rubber chew toy for babies) and thought using that as inspiration was such a great idea!

BBQ {in the crockpot!!}

so, it is finally feeling like winter and has been raining all weekend, ugh! Hubs was craving bbq and I didn’t want him to catch pneumonia by going out to his smoker every 20mins! Pork Loin was on sale so I tossed it in the crockpot with salt, pepper, garlic, crushed red pepper, and poured apple cider vinegar about half way up the side of the pot. Set to low and let it go all day!! 

Drain the majority of cooking liquid out of crock and either make a yummy bbq sauce with the liquid or pour your fav bottled sauce in crock, pull apart with fork and ENJOY!!

“SNOW” Doh {play sand}

Talk about a fun activity to do while it’s cold outside!! This was a blast, not going to lie, it made a huge mess but, the time they spent quietly playing was well worth having to pull out the vacuum!!

Recipe:                                                      

1 5lb bag flour

1 15 oz baby oil

Dump flour in a big bowl and drizzle baby oil all over the flour mix well and you will have the softest sand ever!! I think next time I may add a little food coloring (paste) in the oil to try for colored sand!!

Potato Soup {crockpot}

Yummy! There is nothing better than walking in the door to a house with a warm, ready to eat dinner sitting on the counter! Hence. my love of the crockpot!! Today I made one of the easiest potato soups ever! Just dump, shake, stir, dump again, stir again, set on low and voila a few hours later a meal!

DUMP into crockpot:

1 can cream of chicken*

1 can cream of mushroom

1 can cream of celery

2 cans chicken broth*

1 can of milk

SHAKE:

salt, pepper, garlic

Worcestershire sauce

hot sauce

all to taste

STIR

DUMP:

1 pkg frozen hash brown potatoes (country style cubes) 

STIR, again!

ENJOY!!!

Table {up cycling}

A friend was getting rid of a table that had been damaged and I quickly snatched it up!

First I took a hand sander to the whole thing. It took several times as there were some deep cuts in the top, down several layers of paint and into the wood.

Next, I painted the whole thing with this purple spray paint that I had in the garage (who knows what I originally bought it for?)

Then, I painted it with 2 coats of Antique White, leaving the drawer purple. I then took an old candle and rubbed all the edges, spindles, ridges, etc and went lightly over just those areas with the electric palm sander.

Total makeover was like $5. for the white spray paint, everything else I had on hand. I love how it turned out! I am now starting a 3 drawer side table to go on the other side of the bed!! I LOVE it!! ANd it only took me an afternoon to do it!! Spray paint dries so fast!!! LOVE

Menu Monday and Weekly Plan

Can not believe Christmas has come and gone! Today was our first day back to school and we are off to a chilly start! It is snowing all around us. Just not here. sad.

Big things going on here at Mama Bird’s Nest! I am getting clean and organized with Clean Mama! I started today and downloaded all her wonderful tips/tricks and plan to make this happen! SO EXCITED!! Pop on over and join us!!
