VBS ~ Snack Ideas {Operation Overboad}

Profile Picture

This year I am co-directing VBS but of course I still have to give my two cents on what will be on the menu for SNACKS!! Cokesbury has some good suggestions, but I always try and do fun things that the kids will enjoy, so here goes:

Day 1: Since I have been doing snacks we always do a quick/easy SNACK MIX  that the kids always LOVE… with our water theme I was thinking that this year we would use goldfish, swedish fish, oyster crackers, crasins, gummy worms, m&m’s  and chex mix

Day 2:  Jello Aquariums {blue jello with gummy worms, fish etc in the jello, goldfish swimming around}

Day 3 :  Kid Sushi  {roll ups}

Day 4:  Design a Fish!! (this is my favorite idea, yet!! take Peppridge Farm Goldfish bread and spread low fat cream cheese, give the kids a platter of veggies and fruit and let them design their own fish! Each table picks a winner and then the each get a little prize!)

Day 5: popsicles (water day!!!)

Cause 6000

We are in full planning mode for this years Vacation Bible School! This years theme is Operation Overboard “Dare to GO DEEP with GOD!”.
Last night we had our first planning meeting and to go along with our “water” theme I am so excited to say that I shared my idea for our mission, CAUSE 6000. My dear friend, Deanna Bell’s daughter, Liz and her best friends, Ashley Stinson and Kayla Sutton started CAUSE 6000. Cause 6000 is a non profit to help the people of Guana have clean drinking water. After attending the DO GOOD experience in Atlanta, Ga in the summer of 2010 they left feeling empowered to DO GOOD!! I would say that having a goal that summer to raise $5,000 to build a well was doing good!! Now almost 2 years later these 3 girls along with lots of support from Christ Church in Hickory, NC  they have rasied $70,000 and built 12 wells. HOW AMAZING!!!! Kayla has just finished her freshman year of college, Ashley is heading to UNC-C and Liz to CAROLINA this fall, even with having all these big changes in their lives they are heading to Africa the end of June. Words can not express how proud I am to know these girls. I pray everyday that my child will make a difference in the life of others, what a fine example these girls are!!

Shake It Up Café {VBS Snack ideas}

This is the 3rd or 4th year I have been in charge of the snacks for VBS and I am excited to say that Cokesbury  has done a really good job with their suggestions for the snacks. Last year I had a lot of questions about amounts, so this year I will give you an idea of how much we buy. We typically have around 100 kids.

I am trying to incorporate the daily theme, although we typically switch the days around a bit. Trail Mix is always a hit and it is best done on the 1st day (in my opinion)  Day 1 is always hectic and the ease of being able to dump all the bags into 1 big bowl is just perfect for that day

Harvest Trail Mix:
3 lg (costco-sam’s size bags) Chex Mix
3 bags pirate booty or cheddar popcorn
4 to 6 bags yogurt covered raisins
gummy worms (enough for each child to have 2 on their plate)
craisins
m&m’s
This is such a hit! You have the salty the sweet it’s yummy and the kids LOVE it!!
Flatbread Faces:
How cute is this idea? We will be doing pita bread or flatbread and the Shake It Up Café workers will spread cream cheese on the top of each round and we will have small cups of all the veggie and fruit toppings for the kids to create “faces”!
Toppings include, but not limited to:
salsa
olives
shredded cheese
grape tomatoes
carrot curls
shredded lettuce

                                                  via

Festival Fruit Kabobs:
various melons
grapes
pineapple
blueberries
strawberries
cheese cubes
I love kabobs!! We will serve them with yogurt sticks or crush cups on the side.

Jello Cups:
This too was a HUGE hit last year the kids thought they were the coolest thing. We just did jello in the cups, tossed in a few gummy worms. Let them set up and plop a dollop of cool whip. Place the clear cups on plates with goldfish & whales “swimming” around the outside. FUN!!

Pentecostal Pops:

Last and final day we always do popsicles. The kids love them, they are easy, quick to clean up and we meet them on the playground with the cool treat to enjoy!!

VBS Snack Planning {High Seas Expedition}

I know it doesn’t shock you to hear that I am in charge of planning the snacks for VBS. Last year was my 1st year as the station leader for snacks and I loved it! You know how I love to plan menus and snacks and trying to keep it healthy and have the kids enjoy it is a huge bonus! This year we have 150 kids signed up and we start on Monday!! I will post some pics of our AMAZING Decor, truly our Ms Freida should be a set designer! I can not believe how great everything looks! INSPIRING!!

Our theme is High Seas Expedition and the ideas that they have are a lot better than in years past. I am taking some of their ideas and adding a few of mine to make snacks a hit! They like there to be a sweet & salty snack for each day.
