Earth Day!

What are you doing to help OUR EARTH?

Here at my home we are trying to do our part. I thought I would share with you the baby steps we are taking to make the Earth a little better.

Recycle I do hope that since it is 2013 you too are recycling! I made my own recycling center from bins at target. We live in the country and have to take it to a recycling center. It is really easy and has decreased our trash by at least half!

Garden Plus 1.4-Gallon Kitchen Compost Pail

Compost I got this adorable white compost bin from Lowes about a year ago, prior to that I was using Tupperware! I love this because it fits perfectly under my kitchen sink and Jack loves dumping it into  the big bin outside. Composting has also cut the trash WAY down and I love the visual of seeing all the good things we are eating! A little tip KIDS LOVE COMPOST! My son is obsessed and tells everyone all about composting.

Garden we LOVE our garden and are so lucky to have a very large garden, but don’t be discouraged if you don’t have a big space, you can plant tons of things in pots. We save tons of money by growing all the wonderful veggies, herbs & a few fruits!

Reusable Snack Bags& Reusable Grocery Bags  this is a Super Easy way to cut money and trash! You can find reusable bags and containers everywhere!  Some of my personal favorite bags are SCOUT. The last FOREVER!! I have one that is at least 5 years old. This is the bagette it is the market tote and retails for $23 and is worth every penny in my opinion! Every week I get stopped and asked “where I got my bag”

Re –use Paper! all of  it! All those worksheets, junk paper that comes home from school, FLIP it over use it for art, grocery list, printer paper. Think how many trees you are saving!!

ReSource  is an awesome place that you can donate almost anything you can think of! Really anything, they have a craft room and a warehouse with tons of cool stuff just waiting to be Up cycled!

What are you doing to help OUR EARTH?

I’m in!! {getting clean & organized for 2012}

Photobucket
Well, my OCD always kicks in high gear around Christmas, but this year with working at the preschool and feeling like I never have time to get anything fully done this plan that
 Clean Mama has come up with sounds perfect!!
Like her facebook page or twitter for the daily updates!

I am SO EXCITED!!

Who is with me?

Jack’s Table {up-cycling}

IMG_4848

When I was digging through (quit literally) the attic I came across a table and chairs set that I had as a little girl! SCORE!!

I somehow can not find a before pic but it was white and needed a little TLC. I painted the whole table red and the taped off the top, leaving a 1in boarder and used the Krylon Chalk board paint. I also taped off the top of the chairs, I thought it would be cute to put names on the top!
I am just in love with how it turned out!
What do you think?

last stop on our tour today was Sipe Angus

RS Barn

I have shared with you how much I am in LOVE with their beef. It is the best tasting beef I have ever had! They sell by the pound or you can buy a cow!

Randy and Regina are some of the kindest people I have met! They offered us a drink, pulled up a rocking chair, entertained the kids and told us all about their cattle!! It was awesome.

Before leaving I picked up some ground beef and placed my steak order for pick-up and next weekends Farmer’s Market!!

Brass to Sass {mantel makeover}

candlesticks b4

A collection of “hand-me down” candle sticks that have great design, but icky brass! Thanks to a lovely can of gray primer and my fav creamy white, Hotel Churchill Vanilla from Lowes.
They went from brass to SASS!

birds b4
These birds or maybe they are the pheasants? Sat on the entry way table at my Mimi’s house my entire life. She claimed I used to pet them as a little girl and talk about how I loved them and that when I got BIG and had a house of my own they would come live with me! Well, they did and of course I had to spruce them up a bit and as I am referring  to this spring/summer as my red & white phase.
I too gave these a dull coat of gray primer and a fresh coat of Churchill Vanilla.
I just love how they all turned out. A crisp fresh mantel.

family farm tour 2010

fam farm

I am so excited to share with you guys a fantastic event Family Farm Tour 2010, organized  by the Appalachian Sustainable Agricultural Project, is your invitation to visit 37 farms and gardens throughout six counties in Western North Carolina. The region is home to agriculture of all kinds, ranging from century farms cultivated by the same family for generations, to certified organic farms, to urban gardens. It is NEXT weekend!

June 26 and 27 from 1-6pm

purchase a button for $25 HERE

you can Volunteer HERE

Here is the low down from the ASAP on what you can expect from the Family Farm Day!

Here’s how it works: Get a farm tour map and button. Gather your friends, fill a car, choose the farms you want to visit, and plan a route. There are more than enough choices to fill a schedule for Saturday and Sunday. Come with a cooler and your appetite. A variety of vegetables and fruits, trout, beef, pork, lamb, eggs, artisan cheeses, herbs, mushrooms, honey, garlic, preserves, and much more are available to sample or for sale. Products including yarn, soap, and crafts are offered as well.

Watch animals such as bison, llamas, baby lambs, and bunnies. See traditional skills in practice—and even try them out yourself—during demonstrations of border collie shepherding, outdoor apple butter making, milking, the maple syrup tapping process, and wool spinning. Or, learn about new ideas during a tour of renewable energy systems, see a hydroponics system, visit an edible landscape, or explore a garden labyrinth. Eat bread fresh from a wood fired oven and artisan ice cream, and stop for a picnic at one of the many beautiful farms along the way.

HOW AMAZING is this? I can not wait! Jack is going to LOVE Family Farm Day!! Are you going? Please let me know if you are!!

My good blogging buddy and fellow sustainable living, garden growing, organic eating, cow buying, MOMMY BLOGGER OF THE YEAR, Erin would LOVE this too! Too bad she’s in Kansas! Just click your heels sister and come with us!
